Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Dr. T is a longtime member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine (www.aadsm.org) and works with your sleep physician or ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist to determine the best course of treatment for your Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). We only employ oral sleep appliances that are FDA-approved for treatments of Snoring and/or Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
Oral Appliance Therapy (OAT) involves the proper selection, fitting, and use of a specially designed oral appliance worn during sleep that helps maintain an opened airway. Oral appliances help by preventing the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues into the back of the throat, thereby promoting adequate air intake during sleep. OAT appliances that help treat Snoring and/or Obstructive Sleep Apnea are devices similar to orthodontic retainers or sports mouth guards. Currently there are about seventy different FDA-approved oral appliances available on the market.
After a Complete Initial Examination including appropriate radiographs and diagnostic models of your mouth, we will help select the Oral Appliance best suited for your individual needs. There is no one appliance that fits all! Oral appliances may be used alone or in selected combination with other sleep treatments – health & weight management, surgery, or CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) devices. Please visit our website: www.dental-sleep-apnea.com
